In-House Lab Specimen Labeling and Submission - Full Instructions
Summary:
Sometimes a lab sample is collected in the clinic and then sent to the LGH lab. Examples
- Urinalysis and culture, when we collect urine in the clinic for a dipstick U/A first
- Pap smear
- OBAT oral swabs
These need to be ordered using the "SPEC" Order Sets so the right label can be printed. The MA needs to check the MA Team bucket for the order, or use Find by Time and click the order from within the Visit. The MA must:
- Make sure the clinician SIGNS the order
- Click the order document to open it -- DO NOT try to click on the order from within the encounter, this won't work if the order has been signed!
- Click "VIEW MORE", then "VIEW DOCUMENT"
- Enter the specimen information
- Click "Print Label" just below the specimen information, wait for the printer dialog box, and select the Dymo printer
- Print the label and stick it on the specimen
- Scroll to the top-right of the order, click "PRINT" to print the order itself, and send it to the lab along with the specimen
- Click "VIEW ACTIONS" at the bottom of the order
- Select "Submit" and choose "With In-House Specimen Draw" from the dropdown
- Click "Save"
