Renewing externally prescribed medications

Summary:
Sometimes the arrow for renewing a medication is grayed out. This may be because the medication was originally prescribed outside of athenaOne, such as by a specialist. Or, it may be for no apparent reason. Regardless, the solution:
Click on the medication in the med list and enter a Start Date. The arrow to accelerate the med to the right, from the med list to the A&P (or Order Group), should become active so you can renew it.
This will not work in all cases, such as when a medication has become obsolete, but should work most of the time. It is a much better solution that re-prescribing the medication from scratch and deleting the old one!
