Telehealth - Reason for Visit and Billing

Telehealth - Reason for Visit and Billing

        Article summary

Telehealth visits are driven by the "Reason for Visit" chosen for the encounter.  The workflow changed as of May 20, 2023.  Please see below for the new features and workflow.

        Summary:

A telehealth "Reason for Visit" must be selected for each encounter.  Prior to May 20, 2023 there were separate choices for Audio vs. Audio-visual, such as "Follow-up [telehealth - AUDIO only]" and "Acute [telehealth - VIDEO]".  Starting in May 2023, the Reason for Visit no longer specifies Audio vs. Audio-visual (see Details section below).

Choosing a telehealth "Reason for Visit" automatically adds text to the HPI, and adds a Procedure dropdown to the Billing tab.  It is the clinician's job to make the right dropdown choices in both HPI and billing code to specify Audio vs. Audio/Video visit.

        Details:

        1.  The Medical Assistant (ideally), or the clinician, picks a "Reason for Visit" for all telehealth visits.  This is done from the Intake section (by the Medical Assistant) or the Review section (by the clinician).  Click the (+), Search for "tele" and choose the appropriate one:

        2.   When you get to the HPI, choose the telehealth method: audio vs. audio-visual

        3.  At the end of the visit, on the Billing tab, pick the telehealth method from the procedure dropdown:

Note that you still need to make sure the diagnoses are associate with the telehealth procedure.
